BEIJING, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- The International Academy of Red Cross and Red Crescent, co-founded by the Red Cross Society of China (RCSC) and Soochow University, was recently established in Suzhou, eastern China's Jiangsu Province.

Six research centers will be established under the academy, focusing respectively on the Red Cross Movement, international humanitarian law, international exchanges and cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, humanitarian resource mobilization and cultural dissemination, emergency management and disaster preparedness and relief and so on, according to the RCSC.

Different types of humanitarian educational training and teaching programs will be developed by the academy. Vocational training programs, including short-term training, medium-term training and advanced training, will be carried out.

The academy recruits postgraduate and doctoral students of relevant majors.

Francesco Rocca, president of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, is now serving as the honorary president of the International Academy of Red Cross and Red Crescent.

Rocca expressed his hope for the academy to become a training center for professional humanitarian workers, a research center for humanitarian theory and a platform for international humanitarian exchange and cooperation.
