CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Chongqing’s first “ward school” has opened. In addition to reducing the negative psychological effects of illness, this ward school helps these long-term hospitalization “out of school” children return to classes, which undoubtedly brings a ray of hope to their life.

Classes has been opened in the ward. On September 2, the first ward school jointly established by Xinqiao Hospital of AMU and Beijing New Sunshine Charity Foundation welcomed 7 students. They are children who have leukemia and are “out of school” due to hospitalization for a long time.

Before classes, volunteers will register at the nurse station for class arrangement. With the accompany of volunteers, these children can have various classes, like traditional culture, astronomy and geography, arts and handcraft. Volunteers and children wore masks because these children have weak immune systems.

In addition to volunteers, a nurse will accompany the child throughout a class, so as to notice whether the child is in good spirits, he is OK for study and there are any emergencies. Every detail is critical.

These children should be having classes in bright classrooms and running in playgrounds like other children of their age. However, they have to stay in hospital. Hospital beds and medicines become their “partners”. They are far away from school and the society. These children, who have been hospitalized for a long time, will have a long period of childhood without the guidance of teachers, the company of classmates and interesting textbooks. They live in a small area full of hospitals, nurses and drugs.

In the view of Jiang Dan, teaching involves education and the combination of social workers and children’s psychological counseling. In this school, children can enjoy the similar environment of the school and classroom.
