CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The release of the works was random, without pursuing the number of fans and replying to messages... He looked a little cold on the screen. Since this year, he has regularly released more than 20 tick-tock video works, all of which impressed netizens.
Recently, we communicated with him, and found that he was so talkative and humorous.
"Future is not the same in everyone’s heart, and feelings about their hometown are also different." He said he just wanted to express his vision.
Neon twinkles, and reality & fantasy merge
In this summer, several sci-fi videos about Chongqing, a mountain city, made by him became popular on the Internet. These videos showed popular attractions in main urban areas of Chongqing, such as Jiefangbei, Liziba Station, stilted building group of Hongyadong, Ciqikou, Raffles City, Caiyuanba Old Railway Station, Chongqing Grand Theater and so on.
Its video presentation technique was different from the traditional, neon flashing, the combination of virtual and real. The picture was trendy three-dimensional, which interspersed with lines, geometry and other graphic elements, and the people in the picture seemed to be in the digital space.
What did he want to express?
On his video home page, you can preliminarily understand some of the meaning he wants to express. At the bottom of the video, the words "I live in a city I love", "Get to know about Chongqing 2049" and so on. But at the same time, he has repeatedly mentioned the key word "cyberpunk".
Cyberpunk originated in the 1970s, originally referring to a branch of science fiction, but also used in the early Hong Kong comics and Japanese manga comics. Many movies and TV blockbusters set the plot in the future technology space, such as Alita Battle Angel and Lucy, all of which have obvious cyberpunk style.
"I love cyberpunk Chongqing!" Based on the enthusiastic messages from netizens, we would like to know what the visual design and intention of his use of cyberpunk special effects to describe the city is.
Video materials come from the mountain city
On that morning, we met him at a cafe on Beibin Road, Jiangbei District. He told us that his name was Pang Chuanyu.
Since March this year, he has started making cyberpunk Chongqing videos, which were jointly completed by him and his two partners. After they graduated from university, the three entered the video advertising industry to start their own business. They had always been good at making traditional advertising videos, so this was a breakthrough attempt.
Pang Chuanyu said that the technical difficulties in making such videos lied in 3D scene synthesis and the formulation of visual creative schemes. Producers needed to be proficient in operating a number of network software such as video editing, image processing, drawing, three-dimensional animation rendering and so on. For every video clip that netizens saw, post-production often took more than four days. And the scene was not deliberately drawn, depending on the dribs and drabs of life.
When he goes to IKEA Chongqing Mall for a stroll, he would use a hot dog of 5 yuan as a penetrating material. In the morning and evening, he would stand in an old lane of Ciqikou where the crowd dispersed and record the old street after the enthusiasm left. In the old market of Chaotianmen, he found the inspiration of "Chongqing Forest". He squatted on the track at CRT Haitangxi Station, feeling the sunset, feeling the train coming from far and near, snapping the lights of thousands of houses in Yuzhong Peninsula.
"We want to show three-dimensional Chongqing. Chongqing is really cool." Pang Chuanyu said that it was the starting point for video production. In his eyes, Chongqing was similar to cyberpunk in style. The buildings here were uneven in height and shape, and the floors span various bridges. The night in the mountain city was like a science fiction city in a dream. With a little warmth, brilliance and dreams could be ignited.
Pang Chuanyu believes that the city of Chongqing has always been lively, and the city’s vitality and the fragrance of hot pot would crowd out the haze and gloom of Cyberpunk world. (Translated by Luo Juan, Fathom Language Limited)
