Chongqing, the bridge capital of China

2019-09-26 14:31:01

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Chongqing is not only a mountain city, but also a river city with numerous mountains and rivers in. Since the Founding of the People's Republic of China 70 years ago, diligent Chongqing people have accelerated the construction of bridges with a hard-working spirit of cutting paths through mountains and building bridges across rivers. Since the construction of Chongqing's first cross-river bridge, Niujiaotuo Jialing River Bridge, started in December 1958, a large number of river-crossing bridges with various world records have been built between the north and south of Chongqing, not only allowing citizens to cross the two rivers at will, but also making the area connected by bridges become a new economic growth point. Bridges have become the witness of the rapid development of the city's construction.

There are 14267 highways, railways and municipal bridges in Chongqing. Due to the large number of river-crossing bridges, large scale, high technical level, diversities and strong influence of bridges, Chongqing was officially recognized as China's "bridge capital" by the Mao Yisheng Bridge Commission Annual Meeting in 2005, with a number of world records.

In recent years, Chongqing Housing and Urban-Rural Construction Commission has vigorously promoted the construction of urban infrastructure and accelerated the construction of river-crossing bridges and mountain-crossing tunnels. At present, there are 46 river-crossing bridges in the main urban area of Chongqing, including 20 Yangtze River Bridges and 26 Jialing River Bridges.

Chaotianmen Yangtze River Bridge, the largest arch bridge in the world, has a main span of 552 meters and a length of 932 meters. The bridge is the largest span arch bridge in the world at present and the largest bearing capacity spherical support in the world at that time. The maximum plate thickness used in the main truss structural components is up to 80 mm, which is the thickest steel truss (arch) bridge in China.

The Chongqing Yangtze River Double-line Bridge is the world's largest beam bridge. The main bridge adopts the steel-concrete composite continuous rigid frame - continuous beam structure system, with a total length of 1103.5 meters and a main span of 330 meters, which is the largest span of the same type of beam bridges in the world at present, and advanced in design compared with similar bridges.

The world's largest cable-stayed bridge with single cable plane and double truss - Liangjiang Bridges (Dongshuimen Yangtze River Bridge and Qiansimen Jialing River Bridge). Dongshuimen Yangtze River Bridge, has a main span of 445 meters and a length of 858 meters.

Qiansimen Jialing River Bridge has a main span of 312 meters and a length of 720 meters. It is the world's largest span partial cable-stayed bridge with single cable plane and double trusses. The layout of double main girder solves the problem of track connection under the bridge and tunnel of dense buildings. Skyshuttle shaped curved tower improves the integration of the river, city and bridge.

Caiyuanba Yangtze River Bridge, the largest dual-use bridge for both public traffic and rail transit in the world, has a main span of 420 meters and a length of 800 meters. At present, it is the largest dual-use bridge both for public traffic and rail transit in the world. It is also the world's first composite bridge that adopts the combination of structural materials, structural systems and structural loads. The whole large segment adopts hoisting technology, with the maximum segment weight of 360 tons, ranking the first in the world.

The largest self-anchored suspension bridge in the world, the Egongyan Yangtze River Rail Transit Bridge, has a main span of 600 meters and a main bridge length of 1120 meters. At present, it is the largest self-anchored suspension bridge in the world. Its main span is up to 600 meters, which can not only satisfy the use function of the bridge, but also coordinate with the landscape of the old bridge.

The first cable-stayed bridge in Asia, Shimen Jialing River Bridge, has a main span of 230 meters and a main bridge length of 430 meters. The bridge is the first cable-stayed bridge in Asia and the largest bridge of the same kind in China at that time. It has reached the international advanced level. It marks that the construction technology of Chongqing's bridge has reached the world first-class level. These river-crossing bridges witnessed not only the term "bridge capital", but also the relationship between the city and the bridge for generations.
