The first food street
Which is still popular
“This is Bayi Road 141 Hotpot and that is the PLA Theatre opposite to it. There are also famous restaurants like Wang Duck and Li Duck in this street.” An old photograph on the exhibition aroused the collective memories of countless old Chongqing people who gathered together to chat with each other.
Next to the photo, the author introduced the background of this photo: on March 27, 1986, the relevant department transformed a street in the downtown area of Jiefangbei District into Chongqing's famous food street, which was the first food street in Chongqing, where people could easily eat local snacks such as hotpot, longyan baozi and Chuanbei cold noodles.
Women in the old pictures are eating hot pot. Handbags, curly hair and delicacies around square tables in the street suggested that people were beginning to live a richer life.
Niu Qiang, a senior photographer of Chongqing Daily, and several old Chongqing people who attended the exhibition exactly said that it was the popular Bayi Snack Street in Jiefangbei today.

Yangtze River Cableway is still popular
The exhibition can remind local people of many memories, such as Tianfu Cola, which was popular in the 1980s. On March 31, 1980, Sichuan Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Chongqing Beverage Factory jointly developed Tianfu Cola, and established the first scientific research and production complex in Chongqing. The Huixianlou Hotel, which was opened on September 20, 1982, became the tallest building in Chongqing at that time.
Transportation is a highlight for the exhibition. Chengdu-Chongqing Railway, the first main railway line in southwest China completed in 1952; Shangqingsi Pedestrian Overpass, the first urban pedestrian overpass in Chongqing, which was put into operation in December 1985; Xiangyang and Bayi Tunnels, which were completed and opened to traffic on August 1, 1986; the first air lane on the Yangtze River － the Yangtze River Cableway, which was put into use in use in 1987 and is still popular so that you need to book tickets in advance; the Caiyuanba Overpass built in 1993, the Chengdu-Chongqing Expressway running through the whole line on July 1, 1995, ended the history of Chongqing without high-speed, as well as today's Liziba Station landscape, Terminal T3 of Jiangbei Airport...
The first river-crossing highway bridge
Prosperity is extended to Jiangbei
The old photo of Jialing River Bridge (Niujiaotuo), which was put into use on January 19, 1966, excited Zhou Min, a 68-year-old "old Chongqing citizen”. This bridge, which was being built for eight years and has overcome many difficulties before being completed, was the first river-crossing highway bridge in Chongqing and an important node for Chongqing's northward development.
“It was my birthday when it was put into use on January 19.” Zhou Min pointed to the photo and said happily that she was studying in the first grade of Guihuayuan Middle School (Chongqing No. 57 Middle School today). Although she did not go to the scene on that day, the bridge did change the lives of their families, changed the lives of Chongqing citizens, and extended the prosperity of Jiefangbei, Yuzhong District to Jiangbei.
Zhou Min said that before the Jialing River Bridge opened to traffic, on weekends, their family needed to take a bus from Jiefangbei to Grandpa's home. Then they had to go to Niujiaotuo to get off the bus and wait for the ferry. It would take a long time to have a trip. When they arrived at the other side of the river, cousins would pick them up and then go to Grandpa’s house in Jiangbei Hongshaji (now around the Kingworld Hotel). It would take them about half a day to travel by car and boat, plus waiting for boats and walking. After the bridge was put into use, they could take a bus from Jiefangbei to Guanyinqiao. Residents across the river also began to have more contacts. In the 1970s, there was a big market in Hongqihegou. People in Yuzhong District often rushed to buy cheap and high-quality agricultural products. (Translated by Luo Juan, Fathom Language Limited)
