Four baby pandas with special names in Chongqing Zoo

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- On June 23, two mother pandas called Lanxiang and Mangzai in Chongqing Zoo gave birth to two pairs of twins respectively on the same day. The four baby pandas have attracted much attention since they were born. Chongqing Zoo has launched the naming contest for four baby pandas after their first-month birthday and held a naming ceremony for them on the occasion of their 100-day birthday, which is the first appearance for four baby pandas.

“They come out. How cute they are.” On the morning of that day, many people who loves panda were excited about the appearance of four baby pandas, and they shot pictures for them. Compared with their look when they were born, the four pandas have owned “ black rim of eye” and are wearing black and white “coats”. It was their first outdoor appearance, and the four pandas on the summer sleeping mat looked adorable.

According to the person in charge of Chongqing Zoo, over 200 groups of names were collected in the naming contest after their first month birthday. They selected 10 groups of names among the collection and conducted an online poll, which received more than 4,300 votes finally. In consideration of the meaning of the name, voting and expert opinions, the final names for four pandas are determined as: Shuangshuang, Chongchong, Xixi and Qingqing.

The person in charge of Chongqing Zoo said that the names for four pandas mean “double celebration” (Shuangchongxiqing in Chinese). On one hand, two pairs of twins were born on the same day; on the other hand, it is also a gift for the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of The People’s Republic of China. They also indicate the municipality Chongqing.

Yin Yanqiang, the technical supervisor of giant panda at Chongqing Zoo, said that the four baby pandas are very healthy. Special staff are arranged to take care of them 24 hours a day. They are mainly breast-fed, supplemented by milk powder.
