Sentinels under neon lights

2019-10-28 11:32:46

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- People knows that Chongqing welcomes its tourists so much, and there are such a group of people behind that. Their battlefield is the river. Every night, they can not appreciate the fascinating river view, since they can't be distracted. They should do a good job in river patrol and rescue, and ensure the safety of tourists at all times. Especially during holidays, they should be more cautious. They are like "sentinels under neon lights", guarding the peace of Chongqing.

Gong Lufeng (left) and Qi Zexiang (right) are two water policemen in Chaotianmen Police Station of Chongqing Public Security Bureau. Their main work is to deal with the river. With the increasing popularity of Chongqing in recent years, the night view of Yangtze and Jialing Rivers attracts a large number of tourists. When the lights are lit up, tourists take a boat to enjoy the view. Before the intoxicating night view, what Gong Lufeng and Qi Zexiang want to do is to ensure the safety of tourists.

In the monitoring room, they can have a panoramic view of the situation at Chaotianmen Wharf. They keep their eyes on the screen to prevent emergency problems, so that they can call the police at any time. They do the same work day by day.

In the ship's cab in the daytime, Gong Lufeng will also communicate with captains repeatedly to remind them to strictly implement all safety driving regulations, especially in flood season.

What if they have to check on a boat that's parked under the bridge? It's about to use the unique transition mode of "pulling". With a wooden stick with a notch on a wire running through both sides, people on board can be sent to the other side of the ship once and for all. The water police also use this way to get on board for inspection. From ship's anchor chain to fire and electricity, every detail can't be ignored.

In Chongqing, it has become a must-go item to take a cruise ship to see the night view. During the National Day Holiday this year, about 60,000-80,000 tourists gather here every day, with up to 100,000 at the peak. According to the memories of Gong Lufeng and Qi Zexiang, people walked through the crowds. They had to stretch their necks and look around to see if there were any safety hazards.

It's their routine to check the fire extinguisher box at least once a week. Whether the appearance is intact, whether the indicator light, alarm bell, etc. fall off, whether the fire hydrant is out of date, whether it can be used normally, etc. shall be checked repeatedly for several times.

"The Terminal 3 is in normal condition and there is no potential safety hazard." In the crowded scenic spot, a small walkie talkie has become the best "magic weapon" to communicate with colleagues. When tourists ask for directions, Gong Lufeng would guide them in time and pay attention to maintaining order.

When the night comes, even an experienced captain has to listen to the "nagging" of two water policemen. "When driving a ship, remember to put safety first, especially in flood season; pay more attention to the safety of driving, and do not take it lightly..." The alarm bell sounded all the time to ensure the safety of the ship in the river.

“How beautiful!” “It's a bit like fairyland!” Tourists praised the night view like that. Gong Lufeng and Qi Zexiang could only remember to keep a close eye on the tourists leaning on the railing to take photos and gently remind them to pay attention to safety. Their dedication to their duties occasionally become scenery.

Late at night, tourists who board the boat and enjoyed the scenery gradually dispersed. Gong Lufeng also has to fight for his final daily work. Under the dim yellow light, the mountains and scenery are engraved in the endless memories of tourists. Thanks to the protection of the water police, people can enjoy the tranquility of the city.
