CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Cableway, cable car... These means of transportation are the collective memory of the mountain city, Chongqing, and also the most representative mark of three-dimensional Chongqing. A few days ago, two "cable cars" on the Qiansimen Mountain City Footpath beside Hongyadong caught great attention on the Internet, attracting many tourists to visit and reminisce.

What are the "cable car" like on this very distinctive footpath in Chongqing? What was the story here? The reporter of Chongqing Evening News will show you the scene.

A footpath of more than 200 meters away from Hongyadong

The Qiansimen Mountain Footpath is located in Mianhua Street, Yuzhong District. One end of the footpath is connected with the city balcony of Mianhua Street, and the other end is connected with the wharf beside Jialing River. The footpath is of more than 200 meters long and 6 meters wide. On both sides are old residential buildings raised along the footpath.

Standing on the city balcony, the reporter has the feeling of steepness: from the top to the bottom, countless steps are continuous, leading to the riverside; from the bottom to the top, it is more like a magnificent "Heaven Road".

In the middle of the footpath, there are two recreational pavilions built with cable cars running up and down in parallel, just like two running cable cars. The interior of the car is dyed yellow, and the seats are the same as those of ordinary buses, which can contain 10 persons. Although there is no glass in the window of the cable car, there are still bolts beside the guardrail for passengers get on and off. It can be seen that this is for public transport.

It is worth mentioning that the footpath can not only lead to the riverside, but also to the Hongyadong at the end. The other side can go through Chaotianmen Tunnel to Dadongshuimen and Huguang Guild Hall.

Walk towards Hongydong at the end of the footpath and cross under Qiansimen Bridge, you can reach Hongyadong Food Street in a few minutes.

Do you remember these cable cars?

Before, the news that the original site of Chaotianmen Cable Car was rebuilt attracted numerous public attention after being reported. The vast majority of Chongqing citizens have a deep memory of Chaotianmen Cable Car, but in fact, Chaotianmen Cable Cars are only the last of many public cable cars opened in the main urban areas of Chongqing.

Wanglongmen Cable Car, the first cable car line in Chongqing, was in service in May 1945, which was a great event in Chongqing. Wanglongmen Cable Car was built by Mao Yisheng, with a total length of 178 meters and a height difference of 46.9 meters. It was designed as a fish belly. In 1993, it was stopped because of the construction of Changbin Road. The Lianglukou Cable Car, built in 1953, became an important means of transportation in the main urban areas at that time after its transformation in the 1980s. In 1996, the Huangguan Escalator was completed, and the cable car at LiangLuKou was withdrawn from the historical stage. Since then, Chongqing has successively built cable car lines such as Linjiangmen, Chuqimen, Longmenhao, etc., but they didn’t last long.

Chaotianmen Sightseeing Cable Car was officially opened on October 1, 1984, with a total length of 125 meters and a scissor shaped track. It was shut down in May 2007, but it has not been dismantled. (Translated by Luo Juan, Fathom Language Limited)
