Chongqing to implement 144-hr visa-free transit policy

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Hongyadong, Liziba Station, Yangtze River Cableway... Many scenic spots in Chongqing are attracting tourists from all over the country. In the near future, it will be more convenient for overseas tourists to visit Chongqing's popular scenic spots. Since December 1, Chongqing Air Port will allow eligible international travelers to transit within 144 hours without a visa, which means that foreigners can stay in Chongqing for 6 days without visa application in advance. 

Recently, Chongqing General Station of Exit and Entry Frontier Inspection and Chongqing Public Security Bureau Entry and Exit Management Administration jointly held a lecture on the 144-hour visa-free transit policy for foreigners. In order to ensure the smooth implementation of the 144 hours visa-free transit policy, Chongqing General Station of Exit and Entry Frontier Inspection has prepared the 144-hour visa-free transit formalities handling sign in advance, and translated the application form for the multi-language temporary entry permit in advance.

Chongqing General Station of Exit and Entry Frontier Inspection reminded that the personnel applying for the 144-hour visa-free transit in Chongqing should meet the following requirements: first, they should be citizens of countries within the prescribed scope holding valid international travel documents that can prove their national identity; second, they should hold connecting tickets or relevant certificates to the third country or region with a certain date and seat within 144 hours; third, they shall choose to enter or leave Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport or Wanzhou Wuqiao Airport. Chongqing border inspectors will issue a temporary entry permit for the applicant to stay in Chongqing for 144 hours according to the regulations after checking the applicant in accordance with the above requirements.

The border inspection authorities will not issue temporary entry permits to persons who hold passports or other international travel documents valid for less than three months; who have been stamped with the visa rejection seal by the visa authority; or who have illegal entry and exit, illegal residence or illegal employment records within five years. At the same time, according to the guidance of the National Immigration Administration, the border inspection authorities will punish foreigners enjoying 144-hour visa-free transit who overstay their time limit.
