Two-month-long international theater festival concludes in Beijing

BEIJING, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- The third Lao She Theater Festival concluded over the weekend in Beijing, impressing audiences with 26 performances of 12 widely-known plays from China, the United Kingdom, Poland, Germany, France and Macedonia.

The two-month-long festival, which paid tribute to celebrated Chinese novelist and playwright Lao She on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of his birth, opened on Sept. 19 and was jointly organized by the Beijing Artists Management Corp and Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Center.

Chinese plays performed during the festival included dramatist Cao Yu's "Thunderstorm" by Beijing People's Art Theater, and "White Deer Plain" by Shaanxi People's Art Theater, a version presented in Shaanxi dialect.

"Twelfth Night" and "The Comedy of Errors" by William Shakespeare, and the play of absurd theater "Waiting for Godot" were also staged.

Besides theater performances, the event featured various cultural activities such as theater forums, lectures and play reading, aiming to provide a professional, entertaining and knowledgeable experience for the audience.
