Package tour visitors to Macao continue to decrease in October

MACAO, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- The visitors on package tours to Macao declined by 35.3 percent year-on-year to 509,000 in October 2019, following the decline of 35.7 percent in September, the special administrative region's statistics department said here Monday.

The latest report from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) said that apart from an increase of 19.2 percent from Malaysia (5,500), all other source markets registered decreases, with those from the mainland (380,000), South Korea (33,000), Hong Kong SAR (6,100) and China's Taiwan region (60,000) dropping by 38.5 percent, 37.6 percent, 42.5 percent and 3.6 percent respectively.

In the first 10 months of 2019, the number of package tour visitors totaled 7.29 million, similar to the corresponding figure in 2018, the DSEC report added.

Outbound Macao residents using travel agency services totaled 149,000 in October, down slightly by 0.4 percent year-on-year.

Macao residents traveling under own arrangements dropped by 13.9 percent to 94,000, with those visiting the mainland (37,000), Hong Kong SAR (23,000) and China's Taiwan region (12,000) falling by 12.3 percent, 26.2 percent and 26.4 percent respectively.

Meanwhile, Macao residents traveling on package tours surged by 36.0 percent to 55,000 on account of a 41.7 percent growth in those visiting the mainland (46,000).

In the first 10 months of 2019, outbound Macao residents using travel agency services totaled 1.49 million, up by 1.8 percent year-on-year.
