NANJING, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- A book titled "Chang Zhiqiang's Life" that describes the life of a survivor of the Nanjing Massacre was recently published.

The book, written by Chang Xiaomei, tells the life of her father, Chang Zhiqiang, six of whose family members were killed by the Japanese invaders.

It is the first book that records a survivor's life. The English and Japanese versions will also be published.

On Dec. 13, 1937, the then nine-year-old Chang Zhiqiang witnessed his parents and younger brothers killed by the Japanese invaders. Only Chang and his sister survived.

The book explains how Chang worked hard to build a family and career when he was young and his life in later years, and what influences the atrocity had on him and his family.

"I didn't put testimonies directly into the book, instead, I wanted to present history based on my father's life and show life's resilience and the softness and kindness in human nature," Chang Xiaomei said. "I hope that more people can know about and remember history and understand how precious peace is and cherish our happy life today."

"The book provides an important perspective to look at and record the atrocity's influences on witnesses," said Zhu Chengshan, former curator of the Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre.

The Nanjing Massacre took place when Japanese troops captured Nanjing, then China's capital, on Dec. 13, 1937. Over six weeks, they killed 300,000 Chinese civilians and unarmed soldiers.
