Siberian red-billed gulls live through the winter in Fengdu

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The seagulls are back! Every winter, a large number of red-billed seagulls will fly from Siberia and other places to Chongqing for the winter. At the foot of the famous mountain along the Yangtze River, groups of red-billed seagulls are flying and frolicking on the river. The scene is very shocking, attracting many citizens and tourists.

They are known as the “city spirits” which are associated with many cities in the migration process. In recent years, Fengdu has increased investment in large-scale land greening promotion, with the county’s forest coverage rate reaching 48.2%, realizing the “full coverage” of greening in the ecological barrier areas on both sides of the Yangtze River. Nowadays, there are lush vegetation and clear water on both sides of Fengdu Section of the Yangtze River. Many migratory birds choose to settle down on the side of the Yangtze River.

“In just a few days, a beautiful landscape has been formed here. Especially at the weekend, a large number of people came to see the strange things from the surrounding areas.” This year is the fourth year for red-billed seagulls to winter in Fengdu, increasing from more than 20 in 2016 to nearly 1000 at present, according to the staff of on-site security and order maintenance. At present, the special person has been assigned to take care of it, feed it regularly, set up a tablet to distribute propaganda materials, ensure the smooth wintering of the gull, and promote the harmonious coexistence between human and nature.
