For the Yangtze River Cableway that shuttles over the Yangtze River, tourists are interested in the unique operation mode of the Yangtze River Cableway and its appearance which is popular all over the world. Few people know that the Yangtze River Cableway is a special equipment. There are also strict regulations on special equipment and maintenance.

Ding Peng, the Head of the Party and Mass Work Department of the Yangtze River Cableway Company, opened a thick maintenance manual and told the reporter: “As you can see, there are strict requirements for the maintenance of every part of the cableway.”

Ding Peng gave an example, such as vehicle maintenance. The engine oil shall be changed when driving 5,000 to 10,000 km, and the brake shall be changed when driving 50,000 km. “Some are vulnerable and some are not. According to the degree of wear, the natural requirements are different.”

The Yangtze River Cableway will undergo minor maintenance every month for about two days. The reason why the annual maintenance lasts for one month is that the old carriage, together with the A-type hanger and the traveling trolley (the pulley connecting the hanger and the steel cable), should be removed, and the newly purchased car should be replaced.

“In the past, the carriage has been replaced separately, or the hanger and traveling trolley have been replaced separately. It is the first time to change the three together. It’s very difficult, but no problem,” Ding Peng said.

Was it like breaking a staff? It’s no less difficult to install

On the operation platform of Xinhua Road Station, Yangtze River Cableway, workers are working hard at different levels.

The operation of Yangtze River Cableway actually involves the principle of fixed pulley. The carriage is moved from the south bank to the north bank through the sliding of pulley. Such a cycle, like endless music, makes people feel particularly beautiful.

“Now, it’s not less difficult to remove the notes from the staff than it was to install them.” Ma Jin, the Deputy General Manager of Yangtze River Cableway Company, told the reporter that the car was connected with the walking carriage through A-frame. When dismantling, the three parts should be dismantled as a whole. The new car shall be installed with new A-frame and traveling trolley, and then installed on the steel rope. “Despite the fact that the project is just a dismantling and installation, the overall dismantling is the first time for the Yangtze River Cableway which has been running for 32 years,” Ma Jin said.

According to the documents, on October 24, 1987, the Yangtze River Cableway was officially put into use, with a total length of 1166 meters and a carriage color of beige. In September 2005, the color was changed into bright red, and the carriage body strength increased 5 times. In July 2011, the carriage returned to beige, and led night lights were installed on the car for the first time. In July 2016, the carriage turned orange, corresponding to the adjacent Dongshuimen Bridge.

“At present, the details of the carriage are in a confidential stage. The only thing that can be revealed is that the appearance of the first generation of car will be restored and integrated with the scenery of two rivers and four banks,” Changjiang Cableway Company said.

Overall upgrade? Guide sign and guide service to be added

The outer wall of the Yangtze River Cableway will also be redecorated. The newly decorated exterior wall closely follows the theme of “two rivers and four banks”, adding many cableway elements, which looks more tourism like, and the overall file is upgraded.
