CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Recently, the “1st Chongqing First Youth Karate Championship” has begun in Datianwan Stadium, Chongqing. It was the first time for Chongqing to hold a championship of karate for teenagers, aiming to promote the popularization and development of karate in the whole city and improve the level of karate competition in Chongqing for the selection of excellent athletes, training excellent coaches and referees to play a great role in promoting. At the opening ceremony, the World Karate League group silver medallists Tao Huiwei, Liao Yilin and Chen Ye also brought a wonderful performance of Taekwondo to the audience.

The competition all adopted the World Karate Federation (WKF) 2019 competition rules, strictly in accordance with the National Games standards. More than 300 outstanding professional karate athletes from 17 teams from all districts and counties of Chongqing signed up for the competition. They would compete for individual team, individual and group team, team champions in two days of fierce competition.

According to Xiao Jie, the Head Coach of Chongqing Karate Team, Chongqing Sports Bureau and People’s Government of Jiulongpo District jointly set up Chongqing karate team in July 2018, and achieved good results in just one year. He said: “At that time, Chongqing Karate Team won one silver medal in the World Karate Super League, one bronze medal in the Asian Youth Championship, one gold and three copper medals in the Thailand Open, one gold medal in the 2nd National Youth Games, three gold and three copper medals in the National Karate Championship Series, five golden one silver and two copper medals in the National Karate Youth Championship Series and so on.
