2019-12-24 09:08:57

TUNIS, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian President Kais Saied received on Monday representatives of the Libyan Cities and Tribes Supreme Council.

The meeting focused on possibilities of launching an initiative that can resolve the Libyan crisis, according to a presidency statement.

The Tunisian president "has been mandated by the Libyan Cities and Tribes Supreme Council to intervene urgently to put an end to bloodshed and unify the Libyans," said the statement.

Both sides agreed to help find a political settlement of the Libyan crisis away from foreign interference or the use of arms by inviting all Libyans to a dialogue to reach a concensus to get out of the current crisis and to restore security and stability in the war-torn country, the statement noted.

The two sides also agreed on working to prepare a Libyan conference that includes all components of the political scene, adopting a national reconciliation law, and organizing free and fair legislative and presidential elections.
