A few days ago, the Yangtze River Cableway carried out annual maintenance and car replacement. During this period, the new and old carriages completed the “work” handover. The second generation cableway carriage, which has been in service for 14 years, was officially “retired”, and the third generation carriage started to meet with tourists.

“After nearly a year’s design and production consideration, the new generation of carriage has restored the first generation one (1987 version).” According to the relevant person in charge of Chongqing Passenger Cableway Co., Ltd., the sizes of the new and old carrigaes are the same, but the maximum number of passengers has been adjusted from 80 + 1 to 65 + 1, so the space for tourists to move in the car is larger. At the same time, the carriage body glass has better permeability, higher strength, and wider sight for tourists.

In terms of appearance, combined with tourism and cultural elements of Chongqing, the car used simple lines of mountains and waters, and the carriage body lighting used atmosphere lights, so the overall effect will be further improved.

The daily operation time of the Yangtze River Cableway is 7:30-22:30 (March 1 to October 31), 7:30-21:30 (November 1 to the end of February), and it closes at 22:30 during national holidays.

Six “appearance changes” of Yangtze River Cableway

On October 24, 1987, the Yangtze River Cableway was officially put into use, with a total length of 1,166 meters and a carriage color of beige.

On July 21, 1995, the carriages of the Yangtze River Cableway was replaced by coating for the first time.

In 2005, the carriages of Yangtze River Cableway was changed for the first time with the color of red.

In July 2011, the carriages of the Yangtze River Cableway was restored to beige, and led night lights were installed for the first time.

In July 2016, the carriages of the Yangtze River Cableway turned orange, echoing the adjacent Dongshuimen Bridge.

In August 2018, the Yangtze River Cableway beautified the appearance of the car, using the traditional Chinese ink elements and the landmark elements of Chongqing.
