HANGZHOU, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- The Han Meilin Art Gallery in the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou, which is named after the 83-year-old Chinese master artist, has had its newly expanded 1,500-square-meter exhibition area opened to the public.

Han is one of the most celebrated Chinese artists today and is best known for his creation of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games mascot Fuwa. He was designated a UNESCO Artist for Peace in 2015.

The newly opened section is for public education, where young visitors can enjoy an immersive and interactive experience of art, according to the gallery.

Han donated 500 pieces of his calligraphy, paintings, sculptures, ceramic wares, as well as some folk craftwork to the gallery. He has created a total of 2,000 artworks since 2005.
