CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- “Sitting on a boat, I feel like I was back in my childhood. But look at the tall buildings on the bank, I can feel the rapid changes of the city. It’s a delightful sight!” On January 23, 2019, a sightseeing ferry was opened from Dazhulin to Chaotianmen. Zhang Guobin, who lives in Shapingba, came to experience the “nostalgic tour”and said to the reporter of Chongqing Daily.

Ferry, called as “river-crossing boat” in old Chongqing, was once a memory of many Chongqing people. In recent years, with the construction of more and more bridges, ferry gradually disappeared.

In 2019, it is more convenient for citizens and tourists to travel and visit. There are two new routes in service: Chaotianmen to Danzishi and Dazhulin to Chaotianmen. After the opening of the routes, a trend of “nostalgic tour” was immediately triggered. During the Spring Festival of 2019, just the route from Dazhulin to Chaotianmen handled a daily capacity of 4,000 tourists.

This is just a miniature of Chongqing’s three-dimensional transportation system.

On September 24, 2019, Jiangbei District held a centralized commencement ceremony for key projects in the second half of 2019, including the installation of vertical elevator for Chaotianmen Yangtze River Bridge.

Adding elevators to a Yangtze River bridge is an innovation which was never seen in Chongqing, the “bridge capital”. The elevators are installed at the north and south ends of Chaotianmen Bridge, two at each end. In this way, it is not only more convenient for people on both sides of the strait to travel, but also more convenient for tourists who visit Beibin Road and Nanbin Road.

“After the elevator is installed, the beauty above and below the bridge is connected, and the surrounding areas are all popular attractions.” Jiang Li, a resident who lives near Danzishi, said that after shopping at Danzishi Old Street on weekends, you can take the elevator to the North and South Binjiang Road and bask in the sun for a leisure trip.

In addition to the vertical elevator, there are changes in the air — the Yangtze River Cableway.

At the end of 2019, the Yangtze River Cableway carriages were renewed. For appearance, the new carriage reverted to the look of the first-generation of the 1987 version and has a more historical feel. Inside the car, the glass became more transparent, with larger activity space, and wider tourist vision.

“The new carriage not only highlights the unique charm of ‘A land of natural beauty, a city with cultural appeal’, but also makes it easier to take selfies.” After hearing the change of the new carriage, Mrs. Li, 65 years old, came from Jiangbei to see the beauty of the cableway.
