2020-01-23 09:34:11

TOKYO, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo train operators will lay on special late-night train services during the Olympic Games between July 24 and August 9, the organizing committee and Tokyo metropolitan government announced on Wednesday.

Train and subway services will be extended on around 60 lines serving the region, with eight venues in the metropolitan area scheduled to hold events that will run until 11 p.m. local time or later, organizers said, adding that timetables will be finalized around April.

The Rinkai Line, where the majority of the Olympic venues are concentrated, will operate until around 2 a.m. local time.

The committee and the metropolitan government said they are also considering asking for extra trains during daytime on certain lines where congestion is expected due to the Olympic events.

As for venues outside Tokyo, the committee is considering having train operators extend service hours for those watching football matches at Sapporo in Hokkaido, Rifu in Miyagi Prefecture and Kashima in Ibaraki Prefecture.

During the Paralympics, train hours will be extended by up to one hour on the day of the opening ceremony on August 25 and also the closing ceremony on September 9.
