2020-02-03 13:17:31

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Thirty years ago, Chongqing Jiangbei Airport was officially put into operation, which gave the mountain city of “such travelling is harder than scaling the blue sky” a pair of wings to fly. That year, 440,000 passengers came in and out here. This year, Chongqing Jiangbei Airport ushers in the 30th anniversary of operation. Just at the end of 2019, the passenger throughput has exceeded 40 million people, and Terminal 3B and the fourth runway have also sounded the clarion call of commencement this year. During the 30 years, the airport and the city have changed beyond recognition!

Let’s go back to January 22, 1990. After more than 4 years of construction, Jiangbei Airport was finally put into operation. Since then, Chongqing, the mountain city, has owned “flying wings”.

Since May 1, 2015, Boeing 747-8 Wide-body Aircraft has been put into operation on the route from Chongqing to Beijing. During the Spring Festival travel rush, Jiangbei Airport plans to launch more than 3,000 Boeing 747, 787, Passenger Aircraft 330 and other large airliners on popular routes.

In 1992, passengers checked in at the check-in counter. In that year, the passenger throughput of Jiangbei Airport exceeded 1 million.

Jiangbei Airport was put into operation in 1990, with a terminal area of 12,000 square meters, which can meet the security needs of 1.2 million passengers. Now the terminal area has been expanded to 730.000 square meters.

In 2004, after Terminal 2B of Jiangbei International Airport was put into use, a volunteer was providing inquiry service for a passenger.

On August 9, 2017, the integrated transportation hub put into use simultaneously with Terminal 3, covering an area of 300,000 square meters. A passenger who just got off the plane is changing seamlessly to a bus.

At the beginning of Jiangbei Airport’s operation, the security check process basically depended on manual work, with low efficiency.

Now, in Jiangbei Airport, face recognition system has been used in all security check channels, greatly improving the efficiency of security check.

When Chongqing Jiangbei Airport was put into operation, the ticket was handwritten. The passenger’s name, origin, destination, fare, flight number and other information were manually filled in by the staff.

In 1995, the airport bus in front of Jiangbei Airport terminal was transferring passengers. Since then, the airport bus has become the main means of transportation for passengers to and fro the airport to the city.

In 2007, Chongqing Airport’s long-distance transfer center was officially opened. Jiangbei International Airport became the first airport in China to introduce long-distance buses into the terminal building, realizing land air transport and seamless connection, and also bringing nearly 1,000 peripheral passengers to Jiangbei Airport every day.

The fast monorail train on the ground and the shuttling plane in the blue sky are “running separately”. On August 29, 2017, Jiangbei International Airport, a comprehensive transportation hub integrating urban rail, subway, long-distance transfer center and parking building, was officially put into operation, officially opening a new era of gathering various traffic forms and convenient passenger travel for Jiangbei International Airport.

Ten small TVs and several telephones constitute the On-site Command Center of Jiangbei Airport in the early stage of operation.

Now, the staff of Jiangbei International Airport is staring at the computer with the huge digital screen rolling in the On-site Command Hall. In 2019, Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport completed a passenger throughput of 44.79 million, ranking among the top 50 airports in the world. This year, Terminal 3B and the fourth runway have also sounded the clarion call for commencement this year, and Chongqing, the mountain city, will have a wider and more powerful opening wing.
