2020-02-07 12:41:05

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Cui Yong and Huang Xia who are in charge of the severe pneumonia emergency ward at Chongqing Three Gorges Central Hospital have been working together for nearly a decade. Since the outbreak of novel coronavirus epidemic, they have been holding out for half a month in the core area of the hospital's severe pneumonia emergency ward. They cured the first confirmed case of novel coronavirus infection in Chongqing, and let more and more patients discharge. They cooperated with each other and made up for each other in the critical emergency ward, so they are called "Super Partners".

At 9 PM on January 21, 2020, Cui Yong who is the Director of the Intensive Care Dept. of the Emergency Branch of Chongqing Three Gorges Central Hospital and was undergoing a consultation in Yunyang County, received a phone call from the President who asked him to return to the hospital to deal with the epidemic. Subsequently, Cui Yong led the team to complete the evacuation care of the patients in the original ward within 36 hours, the renovation and decoration of the quarantine ward, the standard setting of the fever clinic, and the deployment of medical staff. Cui Yong and his colleagues spent 36 hours on transforming a centralized hospital.

Huang Xia who is the Deputy Director of the Intensive Care Dept. of the Emergency Branch of Chongqing Three Gorges Central Hospital has been in the fight against the novel coronavirus outbreak for 15 days. On January 22, 2020, after completing her work, Huang Xia entered the core area of the severe pneumonia ward.

She said that “I am specialized in dealing with severe patients all the year round, so I must get involved in this 'epidemic' war, because this is my mission.” Before entering the intensive quarantine ward, everyone should make comprehensive protection. She remembered that for the longest time during the 15 days, she spent more than 30 hours successively with protective materials.

Due to the shortage of protective materials, in principle every shift shall not get out of the ward so as to reduce the cost of protective materials. For close protection, Cui Yong and Huang Xia would check each other's equipment. They wore washing clothes, isolation clothes and protective clothes layer after layer and three gloves. Every time they came out of the quarantine ward, their underwear would be wet.

Since assuming the centralized treatment task, with the increase of cases, the number of patients in the emergency ward of severe pneumonia was also increasing. Before entering the quarantine ward, medical staff would write their name on the back of each other's protective clothes so as to be convenient for mutual recognition and encourage each other.

The medical staff would be delighted for that they made any progress in the quarantine ward. Cui Yong said that "any encourage and action can constantly boost confidence of our medical staff and we formed a tacit understanding."

Cui Yong (the fourth from the right) and Huang Xia (the three from the right) encouraged patients to enhance their confidence. Huang Xia said after treatment, more and more severe patients got better and were transferred from the critical ward to the common ward.

Getting out of the intensive care ward, Cui Yong found that he had a number of missed calls, and Huang Xia was exhausted and drunk a cup of coffee to refresh herself. After a short rest, it's time for them to get busy again.

On January 29, 2020, after careful diagnosis, treatment and nursing care, a patient surnamed Jiang was discharged accompanied by Huang Xia (left), and Jiang was the first confirmed case in Chongqing discharged from hospital. So far, twelve patients have been cured and discharged from the hospital. (Translated by Liu Hongyan, Fathom Language Limited)
