CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Recently, at Hujiatan construction site in Banan District - Chongqing section of Yangtze River main channel, the dredger, traffic boat and other construction equipment started the channel dredging and rock cleaning construction, marking the official resumption of the Yangtze River main channel key project - channel improvement works in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River from Jiulongpo to Chaotianmen. It was the first project resumed among the Yangtze River channel improvement projects since the epidemic outbreak.

At present, it is a Class-III channel and the channel maintenance dimension is only 2.7 meters deep and 50 meters wide, with curvature radius of 560 meters, making large vessels above 1000 tons unable to get through. The improvement project is mainly for the comprehensive improvement of 5 navigation-hampering shoals in the channel segment. After completion, a Class-I channel with a depth of 3.5 meters, width of 150 meters and bending radius of 1,000 meters will be built.

The 5 navigation-hampering shoals include Zhuerqi, Tongyuanju, Sanjiaoqi, Zhuanzaozi and Hujiatan. At present, Zhuerqi, Tongyuanju and Zhuanzaozi shoals and auxiliary projects have been accepted, and the remaining two shoals will be completed this year.
