LHASA, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) -- The agricultural economy of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region maintained a good development trend in 2019, with an estimated grain output of 1.05 million tonnes, according to the local authorities.

The regional department of agriculture and rural affairs said among the grain, the region harvested 815,000 tonnes of highland barley, a crucial staple for local residents.

Located on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the region is well-known for its harsh climate.

In 2019, the area of crops in the region totaled 184,000 hectares, while more than 142,780 hectares were highland barley, said Du Jie, director of the regional department of agriculture and rural affairs.
