CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- “Are the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) spraying disinfectant on buses? Cool…” At Jiangbei Miaoershi Bus Stop, two UAVs were spraying disinfectant on buses, attracting the attention of passengers and residents. “Is it expensive to spay the disinfectant?” asked an old man passing by. “It’s free,” answered Yang Su, the UAV operator. Yang Su is a person in charge of a UAV enterprise in Chongqing, and the two volunteers who were also responsible for the disinfection are his like-minded friends. By far, the three volunteers have finished the disinfection for 500,000-square-meter area for free.

The task of Yang Su on that day was to carry out the external disinfection for buses of Bus 135 and Bus 840 at Jiangbei Miaoershi Bus Stop with his friends. The three volunteers finished all the external disinfection work for nearly 20 buses within 20 minutes.

None of them are professional disinfecting personnel. Yang Su, responsible for the arrangement and early-stage preparation and contact, is a person in charge of a UAV enterprise in Chongqing. Chen Guoran, responsible for the UAV operation and disinfectant spraying, is an agent of a UAV brand. Chen Bin, responsible for the battery charging and handling, is a UAV training instructor. All of them are UAV practitioners. They finished the tasks with two UAVs.

Yang Su was moving the UAV with his partner.

During the disinfection process, passengers and residents nearby were curious about such disinfection method and took pictures with their mobile phones. Some residents even shouted to Yang Su from upstairs: “When do you come to our community?” Yang Su showed a table to the reporter and introduced: “This is our plan. As long as the communities and the sub-districts approve, we are willing to go to any place that is not a no-fly zone, and we do it for free.”

Yang Su said that his mother was a medical worker fighting in the front line at the Infections Department of a hospital. As a family member of a medical worker, he had strong feelings since the outbreak of epidemic and wanted to do something and once tried donating masks and other supplies. However, his capability was limited, so he thought it would be better to do something with his current resources instead of waiting forever. The most abundant resources he owned were UVAs for he had been engaged in the UAV industry for three years, so he cooperated with two friends and used their own technology and equipment to do the disinfection work for companies in areas with no ban on UAV. Since February 14, the area of 500,000 square meters has been disinfected, and it is expected to finish the disinfection for another 200,000 square meters in the coming week. “Of course, the figure will further increase,” said him.
