CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- At the press conference on the novel coronavirus pneumonia (NCP) prevention and control in Chongqing recently, Liu Nan, senior technologist of the Disinfection and Vector Biology and Control Institute of Chongqing Center for Disease Control and Prevention, reminded that the enterprises resuming work and production should try to reduce face-to-face meetings and stick to the principle of “not holding unless necessary”, and could adopt the means like video or telephone conference.

After the resumption of work and production, sick employees shall not resume the work

Liu Nan reminded that all enterprises resuming work and production should set up a temperature monitoring site at the enterprise gate. If an employee is found to have symptoms like fever, dry cough, fatigue and chest congestion, the employee shall not be on duty with illness and shall timely seek medical advice.

Enterprises shall try to reduce face-to-face meetings and stick to the principle of “not holding unless necessary”, and the video or telephone conferences are recommended. 

The staggered meal time is advocated to avoid crowding, and employees are recommended to keep a distance of more than 1 meter when dining. The individual serving is recommended if possible.

During office hours, employees shall actively wash hands frequently. 

Besides, the office shall be well ventilated and windows shall be opened for 2-3 times during the office hours, 30 minutes each time. Employees shall always wear masks if there are many people in the office area, and also wear masks on the way to and from work.

Disinfect elevator spaces more frequently 

How to disinfect communities? According to Liu Nan, community personnel shall focus on key areas and it is unnecessary to spray disinfectant in the vast outdoor environment. The community personnel shall clear the rubbish every day and carry out preventive disinfection for crowded, relatively confined or poorly-ventilated spaces with a large volume of people, especially for elevators, the disinfection frequency shall be increased as appropriate. 

“Outdoor environment, such as green belt and road, is not conducive to the survival of novel coronavirus due to the good ventilation, ultraviolet and other factors,” said Liu Nan. Therefore, it is unnecessary to spray disinfectant in the vast outdoor environment to avoid the abused disinfectant’s damage to human health and polluting the environment. 

Disinfection and prevention after getting home from work 

After getting home from work, what should you do to prevent the NCP infection? Liu Nan advised the following “five steps”:

First, change your shoes. It is recommended to replace the shoes that you wear outdoors with a pair of cleaner home shoes, and put the shoes taken off at a ventilated place outdoor or the entrance.

Second, change your clothes. Change into home clothes and hang your outerwear at a ventilated place. 

Third, remove your mask. Don’t contact the mask surface with your hand when removing the mask. Hold the string and hang the mask at a cool and ventilated place. If the mask is distorted, dirty or smelly, don’t wear it again. 

Fourth, wash your hands. Wash your hands with running water and soap for at least 15 seconds after the above steps. 

Fifth, open windows for ventilation for refreshing the indoor air. Open the windows for 2-3 times, 30 minutes each time, and pay attention to keeping warm.

Besides, Xia Pei also reminded citizens to pay attention to personal protection, wear masks and actively measure temperatures when entering shopping malls, supermarkets and other public places; and try not to buy vegetables and other supplies at peak hours, avoid staying at public places for a long time or gathering.
