CAIRO, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- Classes in schools and universities across Egypt will be suspended on Tuesday due to heavy rain that have been showering the country since the wee hours of Monday morning, the Ahram Online news website reported.

Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said the decision was taken to enable people to weather off the rain that is expected to fall in several areas in Egypt on Tuesday, according to the report.

The prime minister requested the activation of the cabinet's crisis chamber that will be in touch with concerned bodies to deal with the expected weather conditions in the coming few hours.

Various parts in Egypt saw a spell of unstable weather, including heavy rain since Monday morning which affected traffic.

Earlier this week, the Egyptian Meteorological Authority forecasted that several parts of the country will see a three-day wave of unstable weather starting Sunday.

Rain would be accompanied by a drop in temperatures of 4 to 5 degrees Celsius, the authority added.
