CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- At 10 pm on October 29, 2019, Chongqing Datianwan Stadium stopped opening to the public and closed for construction. As a cultural and sports landmark for Chongqing citizens, the news touched the hearts of many people.

A reporter of Chongqing Morning News recently learned that the protection and utilization project of the Datianwan Stadium has been approved by the Chongqing Development and Reform Commission recently, and has been publicly tendered in the form of EPC (general contracting).

Thousands of new underground parking spaces to be added

The bidding announcement shows that the project will protect and renovate the Datianwan Stadium a city-level cultural relics protection unit, and build a mass fitness center; remove non-core functional buildings, renovate and enhance the overall landscape, and build an ecological sports cultural park. In consideration of disaster prevention and refuge, necessary supporting houses, underground garages and civil air defense works shall be built by using terrain elevation difference and underground space in the stadium. The surrounding traffic organization is optimized to separate people from vehicles.

The Datianwan Stadium City-level Cultural Relics Protection Unit was repaired with an area of about 10,000 square meters. About 70,000-square-meter ecological sports and cultural park will be built. The total construction area is about 41,000 square meters, including 35,000-square-meter underground garage in the stadium. The supporting rooms on the new sports ground are about 6,000 square meters.

As we all know, there was a long-term shortage of parking space near the Datianwan Stadium. In the past, it took a long time to find a parking space for people doing sports and exercise here. The renovation is expected to add thousands of underground parking spaces, which is undoubtedly good news for the citizens who often come here for exercise.

The Datianwan Stadium completed in 1956 was the first Grade A stadium of the People’s Republic of China and the first comprehensive stadium in China in the modern sense which was “the best in Aisa”.
