More pharmacies in Xinjiang expand services for chronically ill patients

2020-03-03 08:48:15

URUMQI, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, added more pharmacies to serve patients with chronic diseases, according to local authorities.

Urumqi has added 30 pharmacies that can sell prescribed medicines to patients with chronic diseases to reduce their visits to the hospital during the novel coronavirus outbreak. The expenses are covered in basic medical insurance.

This brings the total number of designated pharmacies offering such services to 68 in the city.

The pharmacies will also work with local communities to provide purchase and delivery services to those in need.

Xinjiang has in recent years worked hard to ease the medical treatment burden for patients.

A comprehensive insurance plan that covers basic medical care, critical illness treatment and medical assistance has been applied to all the registered impoverished residents in Xinjiang so far.
