CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Waste masks, old rags, old newspapers and packaging bags... In the eyes of Liu Yujia, a sculpture major in Grade 2018 at the School of Fine Arts of Southwest University, these unremarkable waste objects are all painting materials that can be used. In these days, Liu Yujia picked up a brush at home and created touching paintings with these materials.

According to Liu Yujia, the purpose of his creation was to honor and salute all the people who were fighting against the epidemic: medical staff, traffic police, soldiers, sanitation workers, community workers, volunteers, takeaway boys, construction workers... They stick to their position, fulfill their duties and make silent contributions. It was their unremitting efforts that had built a solid foundation in the anti-epidemic work. Although he can’t go out, he still hoped to the will to more people through painting. At home, he used all the materials that could be used for painting, while the discarded masks, which were used by his parents, were properly disinfected for artistic creation.

According to Shi Fu, a teacher at the School Of Fine Arts of Southwest University, the painting is called comprehensive material painting. Shi Fu believed that, in the case of limited material conditions, we should expand the thinking. The residual oil and ashes in the kitchen can be used for painting. “The more materials are scarce, the more we have to think about ways. Liu Yujia’s approach is worth encouraging.” (Translated by Luo Juan, Fathom Language Limited)
