Chinese adults spend over one hour surfing Internet every day: survey

BEIJING, April 20 (Xinhua) -- The per-capita daily usage time for surfing the Internet among Chinese adults was 66.05 minutes in 2019, an increase of 0.93 minutes from the previous year, according to the results of a national reading survey released Monday.

The main purposes for surfing the Internet were reading news, having social interactions and watching videos, said the survey, adding that the proportion for deep reading is relatively low.

In addition, 2019 saw Chinese adults spent over 100 minutes per capita every day on smartphones, up 15.54 minutes from 2018, making smartphones one of the major media in people's daily life, it said.

When it comes to reading, about 43.5 percent of Chinese adults showed an inclination to reading via smartphones, up 3.3 percentage points from 2018, and another 10.6 percent prefer reading online.

The survey, the 17th of its kind conducted by the Chinese Academy of Press and Publication, had a sample size of 21,270 people from 29 provincial-level regions.
