CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has not passed, but summer has arrived, so can we turn on the air conditioner? According to the Chongqing Health Committee, in view of the proper use of air conditioning system at present, the “Guide for Operation and Management of Air Conditioning and Ventilation System During the Prevention and Control of COVID-19 in Chongqing” (hereinafter referred to as the Guideline) is released by Chongqing Epidemic Prevention and Control Team. Before using, the air conditioning system need to be cleaned strictly, and it can only be put into use if the cleaning effect passes after the hygiene test.

It should be noted that the Guideline is applicable to the air conditioning system in public places such as hotels, shopping malls, gymnasiums and waiting rooms, as well as in key places such as government offices, enterprise and public institutions, schools and business office buildings.

How to use it

Before using, the air conditioning system need to be cleaned strictly, and it can only be put into use if the cleaning effect passes after the hygiene test.

When the air conditioning system is all-air system, the air-return system should be turned off and the all-fresh air mode should be turned on.

When the air conditioning system is fan coil plus fresh air system, the following conditions shall be satisfied: first, ensure that fresh air is taken directly from the outside and do not take air from the engine room, corridor or ceiling; second, ensure normal operation of exhaust system, and for rooms with great depth, measures should be taken to ensure the ventilation of the internal area; fresh air system should be operated all day.

When the air conditioning system is fan-coil system without fresh air (similar to family split-type air conditioner), the door or window should be opened to enhance air circulation.

Where to use it

The fresh air outlet and its surrounding environment must be cleaned to ensure that the fresh air is not polluted.

For crowded places like supermarket, shopping mall and office building, whether or not to use the air conditioning system, the ventilation quantity should be increased through the door or window and other ways to ensure the full indoor ventilation.

For places with large turnover, the fresh air system and the exhaust system should continue to be operated for 1 hour after work every day to ensure fresh indoor air.

The Guideline suggests that the humidification function of the air conditioning and ventilation system should be turned off. If suspected, confirmed or asymptomatic cases of COVID-19 are found, the air-conditioning and ventilation systems should be turned off immediately. (Translated by Mao Qiao, Fathom Language Limited)
