The longest TBM Section of Line 9 realizes double-line connection

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- On May 28, with the TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) cutterhead breaking out of rock, the longest TBM Section of Phase 1 Project of Chongqing Rail Transit Line 9- Guanyinqiao Station to Liyuchi Station TBM Section realized a double-line connection.

TBM is currently the most advanced subway tunnel construction equipment in the world, which allows subway tunnels to be formed in one go. In the TBM Section between Guanyinqiao Station and Liyuchi Station, the starting well has a depth of 48.5 meters (equivalent to the height of a 16-storey building). The geology of this section is mainly composed of sandstone and sandy mudstone, and it penetrates the existing Line 10, which is very difficult to construct.

China Construction Tunnel Corp., Ltd. of China Construction Fifth Engineering Bureau (hereinafter referred to as China Construction Tunnel Corp., Ltd.) which contracted for Phase I of Line 9 overcame the above difficulties and finally realized double-line connection of TBM Section between Guanyinqiao Station and Liyuchi Station.

“The average length of the TBM tunnel in a single day can reach 13.5 meters, which is 6 times of the efficiency of the tunnel construction by the common mining method.” According to the relevant person in charge of China Construction Tunnel Corp., Ltd., on the basis of epidemic prevention and control, the TBM Section from Guanyinqiao Station to Liyuchi Station will resume construction first over the whole line. In order to make up the lost time, the Project Department actively coordinated the resources of all parties, strengthened the technical and construction organization guarantee, and ensured that the double-line connection of the section will be realized as scheduled.

The Phase I of Line 9 has a total length of 32.3 kilometers, with 25 stations. It spans the core areas of Shapingba District, Yuzhong District, Jiangbei District, and Yubei District, and will connect the established, under construction and planned 8 lines, including Loop Line, Line 1, Line 3, Line 4, Line 5, Line 6, Line 10, Line 14.
