CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- A new bus will be added to Chongqing’s special three-dimensional bus system. In March, the 2020 Municipal Traffic Working Conference said that Chongqing would make experiments in operating alley shuttle buses to enrich its feature of three-dimensional bus system and further facilitate public travel.

According to Chongqing Morning Post, the first alley shuttle bus in Chongqing High-tech Industrial Development Zone has been operated. The first bus route with bus number of four-digit, beginning with the number 3, has also started operating in Liangjiang New Area.

First alley shuttle bus in Chongqing High-tech Industrial Development Zone

On June 1, an alley shuttle bus entered the passenger pick-up stop on Zongwu Road on time, which is the first alley shuttle bus operated in Chongqing High-tech Industrial Development Zone. The route covers a total distance of 2.1 km, running from the first stop of Zongwu Road to Jiandingpo Station.

It’s said that the route of alley shuttle buses in Chongqing High-tech Zone is the first one operated to solve the travel problem for residents living in the “last kilometer” area in this zone, which also regulates the passenger transport market order planning.

Though the usual shuttle bus model is used for this route, the route does not have a bus number. Meanwhile, it is also the first time for Chongqing Public Transport to name a bus with “alley”. It is named alley shuttle bus.

According to Chongqing Municipal Transportation Bureau, in 2020, Chongqing will operate minibuses with 7 to 9 seats on branches that are not accessible by regular bus models in the main urban districts.

Alley shuttle bus will effectively improve the coverage of bus network, and reduce the bus coverage blind spots due to terrain, road and other restrictions.

The “one ticket system” of 2 yuan will be implemented on the alley shuttle bus. Passengers can board the bus with traffic card or scanning the QR code. The conventional bus preferential transfer policies like free transfer of public transport in one hour in main urban districts will also be implemented.

According to the bidding on the website of Chongqing Public Transport Group, Chongqing Liangjiang Public Transport Company is purchasing 10 new energy minibuses, while Chongqing Northern Public Transport Company has purchased 10 new energy minibuses.
