On June 18, 2005, the first train of the first line of Chongqing Rail Transit, Monorail Line 2, departed from Dongwuyuan Station. It has been 15 years since CRT Line 2 opened in 2005. As the driver of the first train, Yang Jie, in the past 15 years, has also witnessed the development of Chongqing Rail Transit and the changes in the city in the carriages and compartment.

The first line has been operated for 15 years

Yang Jie still remembered the first day when the Monorail Line 2 was in service: “The train departed from Dongwuyuan Station and was bound for Jiaochangkou. The compartments of 4 coaches were full of people, and there are also many passengers waiting on the platform along the Line.”

Chongqing Monorail Line 2 is not only the first rail transit line in Chongqing, but also the first straddle type monorail transit line in China. When Yang learned that he would be driver of the first train, he was so excited that he got up early that day to prepare.

At that time, he had been trained in driving for two years in Shanghai as a trainee, and after returning to Chongqing, he continued to participate in the debugging work before the operation of Line 2 and relevant professional technology training.

Yang Jie said that when the trial operation of Line 2 was just launched, it was a “fashionable” transportation means in the eyes of many people. At that time, many passengers did not come to sit on the “track”, but came to see the “track”, appreciate the river view along the river, and today’s popular city landscape, “trains passing through the building”.

With the opening of Monorail Line 2, the journey from Dongwuyuan to Jiaochangkou takes less than 30 minutes, which has become a new option for many residents along the route. Today, Line 2 has been in operation for 15 years and the total passenger volume has exceeded 1 billion passengers.

The Monorail Line 2 was built along the river and walked around the mountain. In addition to the passengers in coaches, Yang Jie accompanied the unique scenery outside trains.

“Taking Daping Station as the center, to the direction of Jiaochangkou, the river scenery along the way shows the unique charm of landscape Chongqing. To the direction of Xinshancun, the train travels between the city buildings and feels the liveliness and prosperity of the city.” According to Yang Jie, the scenery along the way has been changing, with more and more tall buildings and beautiful scenery. The “trains passing through the building” landscape attracted more and more nonlocal tourists. Two years ago, all curtains in the coaches of Line 2 trains were closed, allowing more passengers to feel different visual effects through the carriages.

What has changed is the development of Chongqing Rail Transit. Now, nine lines have been in service with an operating mileage of 329 kilometers. Yang Jie has also become Steward Safety Manager of Chongqing Rail Transit Operation No. 2 Company from a driver, who is responsible for training the driver’s driving safety and continues to escort the operation of Line 2.

In order to give full play to the characteristics of Line 2 and integrate with urban tourism development, they also plan to build themed trains. At the same time, the trains of Line 2 will also be lengthened. It is planned to launch 8 marshalling trains. This also means that not only the capacity of Monorail Line 2 will increase, but also an extended version of the “trains passing through the building” landscape at Liziba Station.
