LHASA, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region has restored 124,000 hectares of desertified land since 2016, the regional forestry and grassland administration said Wednesday.

Located on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, Tibet faces a fragile ecological environment and serious land desertification and soil erosion due to the plateau topography and climate.

Since 2016, the region has allocated a total of 64.5 million yuan (about 9.11 million U.S. dollars) for desertification prevention and control projects, according to the administration.

The fifth round of desertification monitoring conducted in 2015 showed that Tibet had over 21.58 million hectares of desertified land. Enditem
