CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The gardenias are blooming, the fresh floral scent lingered on everyone’s nose, and luggage made a “gurgling” sound along the way, as if saying “goodbye” to the dormitory building, cafeteria, teaching building and others in turn. Recently, graduates from major universities in Chongqing have begun to leave school successively. Their large and small luggage were not only loaded with the most precious items in their hearts, but memories of the youth.

The reporter of Chongqing Morning Post wanted to see what stories they had through the small things.

Thing 1: Work permit and certificate of honor

Wu Xunzhong, majored in Food Science and Engineering of Southwest University

Wu Xunzhong is a young man and enjoyed four-year colorful life in college. He is packing up these days because he is leaving school soon. He told the reporter that he has found a good job and was about to start a new life journey.

He opened his suitcase and said that normally, the luggage for a boy was relatively simple, mainly including clothes. However, there were “commemorative things” to take away. In Wu Xunzhong’s luggage, there were student work permit and various honorary certificates of his college life.

“I’ve been involved in student work for four years in college. Every bit of this process has made me grow from a high school student who knew nothing to a senior who has been calm and will think on his own initiative,” Wu Xunzhong said with a smile. “Looking at them, I can recall the bitterness and happiness in the past. These things also remind me that in the future, we should keep the positive and hard work of university to become a better self.”

Thing 2: An old notebook

Liu Wenhao, majored in Communications of Southwest University of Political Science & Law

There was a five-year-old notebook in Liu Wenhao’s luggage. Because of the friction caused by frequent use, the notebook looks a little shabby.

Liu Wenhao said that the notebook was the most precious thing in his university. It not only recorded important personal information, but also, most importantly, recorded the journey and self-examination along the way. “I carry this notebook with me because it always teaches me to reflect and remind me to do something meaningful.” Liu Wenhao said that he was leaving school. He could encourage himself to move forward bravely with his notebook from time to time without leaving any regrets.

Thing 3: A photo

Zhang Haoran, majored in News of Southwest University of Political Science & Law

There was a photo in the luggage of Zhang Hanran. He said that this photo recorded his posture of running with all his strength when he was a freshman participating in the school sports meeting. This photo was selected on the day of WeChat official account of the school, and was named after “hardworking”.

“I think the significance of this photo is not only in the competition, but also in the most realistic portrayal of my college life.” Zhang Haoran said with a smile that this photo has inspired him since he was a freshman, and in the future, he hopes to continue to inspire him to fight hard and meet new challenges.

Thing 4: A pendant

Hu Ying, majored in Petroleum Engineering, Chongqing University of Science and Technology

“It’s too short. I didn’t expect to say goodbye to my university before the last semester just lasted for a month...” A few days ago, Hu Ying packed her bags and left her almamater reluctantly.

“I took two pieces of luggage. One contained daily necessities such as clothing, and the other contained books.” There was a special thing in Hu Ying’s luggage, a book signed by her favorite author, a commemorative bookmark of cherry blossoms from Wuhan University and a pendant from a competition at Chongqing Jiaotong University.

This pendant is a souvenir she won in the Women’s Group Chinese Chess in a chess competition held in Chongqing. When Hu Ying was a child, grandpa liked to take her to play chess on the street. She was also in love with chess when she was so enchanted. At the university, she joined the chess club. In the municipal chess competition that Chongqing Jiaotong University participated in, she unexpectedly achieved very good results. She cherished this pendant very much.

“When I was young, my grandfather often took me to play chess on the street. Later, when I went to school, I only played chess with my grandfather occasionally, and then later went to university, and almost never played chess with him.” Hu Ying said the pendant reminded her of her grandfather. “I will go back to play chess with him when I’m free.”

There is a memory behind each thing. What is taken away is the thing with emotions, and what is left is the affectionate attachment. (Translated by Luo Juan, Fathom Language Limited)
