CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- on July 1-17, the Municipal Commission of Commerce and Alipay jointly launched the "Chongqing 717 Life Carnival" and held night market activities on Guanyinqiao and Shiqiaopu Food Streets. The two delicacy streets are brightly lit and crowded through the whole night, with more than 300 merchants participating in the activities, igniting the enthusiasm of citizens for consumption.

This epitomize the night economy in Chongqing.

Since the resumption of work and production, some commercial districts, landmarks and merchants in Chongqing have used online and offline channels, combined with take-out, live broadcast and cultural elements, to make the night economy come back to life again.

Affected by the epidemic, compared to last year, this year's night market activities are touched by the Internet element. "This is a win-win event." Professor Shen Hongbing of Chongqing Technology and Business University analyzes, for Internet platforms, only the entry of enough sellers and rich the product categories can generate more economic benefits; and for offline business entities, the consumers on the platform can be diverted to the physical business, increasing the flow of people.

Since this epidemic changed some citizens' consumption habits, some businesses have also taken the advantage of the situation to meet the needs of citizens at home at night.

Meituan’s latest takeaway data shows that during Chongqing’s night economic hours (from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. the next day), the take-out orders accounts for more than 38% of the total order volume throughout the day, ranking first in the southwest region.

Relevant person in charge of Meituan said that the growth in the number of night orders in Chongqing has continued from March to the present, during which, the night orders in May increased by 68% compared with March, with a strong growth momentum. Meituan’s big data shows that Chongqing’s night barbecue takeaways accounts for the highest proportion of total night takeaway orders. (Translated by Zhou Tuo, Fathom Language Limited)
