CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Recently, Ministry of Commerce held a special press conference on the reconstruction and upgrading of pedestrian streets, and announced the first batch of “National Demonstration Pedestrian Streets”. Chongqing Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street and other four pedestrian streets were listed.

From the end of 2018, the Ministry of Commerce launched the first batch of pilot projects in 11 cities, including Chongqing, to renovate and upgrade pedestrian streets from five aspects. In 2019, the total passenger flow and turnover of the 11 pedestrian streets increased by 22.6% and 17% year-on-year.

In particular, five pedestrian streets, including Chongqing Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street, Nanjing Confucius Temple Pedestrian Street, Hangzhou Hubin Road Pedestrian Street, Chengdu Kuanzhai Lane Pedestrian and Xi’an Datang Night City Pedestrian Street, have been greatly improved, with rapid progress and good effect. Recently, after local application and third-party evaluation, the Ministry of Commerce named these five pedestrian streets “National Demonstration Pedestrian Street”.

According to the relevant person in charge of Chongqing Municipal Commission of Commerce, Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street is the only comprehensive pedestrian street among the five national demonstration pedestrian streets. Since Chongqing launched the pilot project for the renovation and upgrading of Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street at the end of 2018, Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street has been better planned and laid out, more sophisticated in management services, more beautiful in environmental landscapes, more consumer supplies, and deeper in cultural heritage, and its leading role has been gradually revealed.

According to relevant statistics from Yuzhong District, in 2019, Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street’s annual turnover exceeded 20 billion yuan, accounting for nearly 70% of the total retail sales of consumer goods in the district, up 14% from last year. Passenger traffic reached 160 million, up 37% from last year. The satisfaction of consumers and operators has reached more than 90%.

According to the Economic Report on Pedestrian Street in 2019 released by Alibaba in January this year, the passenger flow of Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street ranked first in China; the data of Bulletin on Pedestrian Street Reconstruction and Improvement released by the Ministry of Commerce recently showed that from January to May 2020, the passenger flow and turnover of Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street ranked first among the 11 pilot pedestrian streets in China.
