RAMALLAH, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- The World Bank signed Thursday an agreement to support Palestine with 30 million U.S. dollars for aiding low-income families and unemployed workers, according to WAFA news agency.

The report said that the Palestinian Authority Minister of Finance Shukri Bishara and the World Bank's Director in Palestine Kanthan Shankar signed the agreement at the office of Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Ishtaye in Ramallah.

"Under the agreement, 6 million U.S. dollars will go for supporting needy families, 19.9 million dollars will support workers on daily wages," said Ishtaye, adding that the aid will help 68,000 unemployed Palestinian workers.

Ishtaye noted that 10 million dollars will be used to support small businesses in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

"This project is to be executed through ten Palestinian humanitarian associations and will serve around 3,100 Palestinian families in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip," said the prime minister.

For his part, Shankar said that the World Bank "is so glad to provide this financial support to help low-income and needy families to help the Palestinians overcome their crisis." Enditem
