Ministry publishes "white list" to regulate students' contests

2020-08-21 11:49:13

BEIJING, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Education on Thursday published a "white list" of national contests approved by the authority to be held among the country's primary and middle school students.

Holding unapproved nationwide contests among these students is not allowed, the ministry said in a statement, noting that these efforts are to regulate such activities to create a sound environment and ensure such events bring positive effects to the students' well-rounded development.

The statement said sponsors of the contests must adhere to a non-profit purpose and should not collect any fees from the candidates.

Approvals from local anti-epidemic authorities are also needed for holding such activities, the statement said.

The "white list" includes 35 contests in subjects of sciences, humanities and arts, such as the China Adolescent Robotics Competition and the Educational Drone Event of China, scheduled to be held during the 2020-2021 school year.

The ministry statement said the final list was issued after a review from experts, a publication for public comments and a final approval process. Enditem
