NANNING, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- The construction of a cross-sea bridge connecting coastal cities along the Beibu Gulf of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region officially began on Monday.

Located in the city of Qinzhou, the Longmen Bridge project will stretch roughly 7.6 km, with the main bridge measuring 1,198 meters in length. With a designed driving speed of 100 km per hour, the two-way six-lane project is scheduled to be completed in four years.

It will be the longest cross-sea bridge in Guangxi and is expected to become an important passage in the Beibu Gulf economic zone, pushing forward the zone's development of industries, its port, transportation and tourism.

Commutes between three main cities along the Beibu Gulf -- Beihai, Qinzhou and Fangchenggang -- will be cut to one hour after the project is completed. Enditem
