Public transport: best choice for citizens to go out

2020-09-24 11:41:46

Young people were giving up their private cars and taking public transport.

Green travel was advocated on Car-free Day.

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- September 22 is “World Car Free Day”. On the morning of that day, in order to promote public transport and low-carbon travel, young volunteers of the Transport Development Investment Public Transport Group Liangjiang Public Transport and the Jinling Community of Yuanyang Sub-district jointly launched the “Practice Green Travel and Build Beautiful China” into the streets.

Are the passengers willing to take the bus? Are there any better suggestions for public transport? In order to listen to the voices of the passengers, the organizer issued questionnaires at the entrance of Yonghui Supermarket Jinkai Avenue store at Yuanyang Bus Stop and received public feedback.

According to the survey results issued by the questionnaire, public transport was the first choice for citizens to travel. Among passengers traveling between 7:30 and 9:30 in the morning, 70% were office workers and about 20% were students, because it was faster to take the bus lane than to drive by yourself. In the time period of 9:00-12:00, 80% of the travelers were senior citizens. They usually traveled by public transport, which was very convenient for one to two kilometers.

The elderly took the bus off the peak

At 10:00 in the morning, old Liu, a resident of Jinfu Road, came out of Yonghui Supermarket with a cabbage and was about to take the bus home.

Regarding the changes in public transport, his deepest feeling was that he knew how to travel on peaks. 73-year-old Liu used a old-man bus card for free ride. He used to go out at 7:30 in the morning and rushed to buy the best vegetables when the supermarket opened.

Affected by the prevention and control of the epidemic, old Liu also used the old-age card, but did not go out after 09:00. “At first, I felt a little uncomfortable, but later found out that the buses after 09:00 were not crowded at all. We got seats on the bus.” Old Liu said, the elderly bought food for a living. But in contrast, young people worked harder and they were more tired, and they felt worthwhile to travel off the peak for them.

The advantages of public transport were highlighted

Mr. Zhao, who was accustomed to driving, lived in Yuanyang and he worked in a company in Shiqiaopu. He had always driven to work. One day in August of this year, due to traffic jams on the road, Mr. Zhao decided to take the rail transit from Yuanyang Station to Lianglukou, and then transferred to Line 1 to Shiqiaopu. “The whole journey takes less than 40 minutes. When I arrived at Daping, I can still get a seat.”

Mr. Zhao said that since then, he has become accustomed to travelling by public transport. “Now we only drive our own car when we go out on weekends.”

In recent years, the mileage of rail transit has become longer and longer, and there are more and more bus lanes in Chongqing, and the advantages of taking public transport have gradually become prominent. (Translated by Luo Juan, Fathom Language Limited)
