How is university history presented?
CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- “No matter where you are, you can contribute to helping save our country through education.” The resounding lines on stage infected every student in the audience.
On October 12, the 91st anniversary of the founding of Chongqing University, an original stage play of the university’s history, “The Original Aspiration – 1929” was performed in Chongqing University’s Huxi Theatre. It is understood that “The Original Aspiration – 1929” is based on the history of Chongqing University, showing the difficult and great history of the founding of Chongqing University from 1925 to 1929.
Hu Huanyang, one of the creators of the play, told the reporter that the play is divided into three chapters, namely The Ambition to Run the University, The Determination to Prepare for the University, and The Original Aspiration to Establish the University, with nine acts. Based on the university’s history recorded in archives, the play tells the story of a series of touching events from the germ idea of founding Chongqing University around 1929 to the establishment of it. Through the portrayal of the founders of Chongqing University, including “Five Elders”, “Four Bachelors” and the first president of the university, Liu Xiang, the play interweaves the fate of the characters with the background of the era to reflect the philosophy and beliefs of running Chongqing University and to relive the glory and dreams of the beginning of the university. “Unlike traditional plays, the play is a new and original way to tell, interpret, and show in a blend that makes the play both detailed and interesting. It is very meaningful for students and faculty to learn about the history of Chongqing University, how their alma mater was founded, and the original aspiration.”
In addition, all the characters were played by students, aiming to put into practice the idea of “Three-wide Education” by casting teachers and students as alumni and students as seniors, and to tell the story of Chongqing University in a vivid stage play so that teachers and students can understand the university’s history, inherit its culture and carry forward its spirit.
