Press conference of SHISEIDO Cup of China ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating 2020 held in Banan District, Chongqing

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Recently, the organizing committee of SHISEIDO Cup of China ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating 2020 held a press conference in Banan District, Chongqing, officially announcing that the event will be held in Chongqing Huaxi Culture and Sports Center from November 6 to 8 this year. Famous Chinese figure skaters Sui Wenjing/Han Cong, Jin Boyang and Yan Han will represent the figure skating national team in Banan District.

The reporter learned that numerous international events, including the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, have been postponed or canceled due to the worldwide spread of COVID-19 epidemic. The International Skating Union canceled the World Figure Skating Championships 2020 in March and announced in September that it was canceling or delaying the Winter Olympic test events for figure skating and short track speed skating to be held in China at the end of the year, making China ISU Grand Prix the only ISU event to be held in China this year.

The organizing committee will also strictly follow the guidelines of the national department of health and epidemic prevention and General Administration of Sports of China on the recovery of sports events to ensure a safe and healthy environment for athletes and spectators, according to Shen Xue, Chairman of Chinese Figure Skating Association.

In addition, according to the resolution of the ISU Council, participants in the 2020/21 Grand Prix will be limited to: athletes and officials of the host country, athletes who have been training in the host country for a long time, and athletes from other ISU member associations. Only one group of athletes will compete in each event of China ISU Grand Prix, namely, 6 men’s singles, 6 women’s singles, 5 ice dance groups, and 4 pairs. Zhao Hongbo, head coach of China’s figure skating national training team, said that athletes train in a safe confined state and badly need a big event like this to spur them on. China’s figure skating national training team is looking forward to and cherishing this China ISU Grand Prix even more.

Zhang Xin, deputy director of Chongqing Administration of Sport, said at the press conference that spectators will still be able to watch this year’s China ISU Grand Prix. Issues such as how to sell tickets and restrictions on the number of tickets are also being promoted, and every effort will be made to get as many spectators into the venue as possible to watch the event.
