My head teacher is a PE teacher

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Recently, a middle school in Qingdao appointed a PE teacher as the head teacher in a class, but the results were fiercely opposed by parents, which caused widespread concern. In response, the Ministry of Education hoped that it will be fashionable for PE teachers to be class head teachers. In Xiejiawan primary school, Jiulongpo District, Chongqing, there is such a "fashionable" PE teacher, Guo Qi. She is 41 years old now and has been in the position of head teacher for eight years.

Since 2005, Guo Qi has been a PE teacher in Xiejiawan primary school, Jiulongpo District, Chongqing. In 2012, in order to enable children to benefit more from sports in school, the primary school proposed Guo Qi as a class’ head teacher. At first, Guo Qi was worried, but she decided to take this challenge in the end.

On the playground, the children from class 16 of grade two are having PE class. They have prepared various kinds of beverage bottles, which contain soybeans, mung beans, rice, fine sand and other items. These are "dumbbells" designed by Guo Qi for children.

"After PE class, the rice in it will be taken home to cook for mom and dad," a child holding a "dumbbell" with rice said. It is Guo Qi's educational philosophy to make self-made sports equipment with small objects in life, and help children develop the habit of hands-on and thrifty.

"Imagine there is a balloon above your head. Keep your legs straight and straighten your body. Use your head to get to the balloon. Ready? Jump'!" During the break, Guo Qi gave the order and the children leaped happily. It is what Guo Qi does every day to let the children regain their energy, switch their mindsets, and finally help them better complete the next lessons.

As long as she has time, Guo Qi will take the children to jump rope together in the open space outside the classroom. “Exercise can release stress, let us in a happy mood, and also make the children better concentrate,” Guo Qi said. In addition to integrating sports into daily education, Guo Qi also takes the children to do hygiene, which is also a kind of exercise in her opinion. She does not hesitate to praise children who have not got satisfactory grades but are serious about hygiene. After becoming a class head teacher, Guo Qi understood the power of praise to children.

The dozens of certificates placed on the table are some of the awards children have got. "It's the honors that students in my class won at the sports meeting," Guo Qi told reporters. "Our children have always been among the top no matter their academic performance or their performance in the sports meeting. These are their honors."

As a PE teacher, being a class’ head teacher is a big challenge for Guo Qi. In addition to being familiar with students' physical quality, she must also spend more time communicating with relevant subject teachers, understanding the academic situation of each student, and then communicating with parents. Her "all-in-one skills" can teach parents how to relieve their children's emotions, so that children can also adjust their living and learning state at home.

Guo Qi is also a mother. In her eyes, every student is like her child. As a mother, a head teacher and a PE teacher, she hopes that every student can study and live happily. This is also her "original intention" to carry out the career as a class’ head teacher. (Translated by Zeng Chenxi, Fathom Language Limited)
