HOHHOT, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- A running race stemming from an ethnic Mongolian custom nearly 800 years ago, will take place on November 8 at Zhenglan Banner, Xilingol League, north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

The 2020 Inner Mongolia Xanadu Chiguiyou Running Race consists of three events including the 16km running competition as well as 4.5km and 16km brisk walking events, organizers said.

Runners have been signing up for the events until November 6.

Zhenglan Banner is situated near the UNESCO World Heritage site of Xanadu, one of the two major capitals during the Yuan dynasty nearly 800 years ago.

Guiyouchi is a Chinese transliteration of a Mongolian word referring to a long-distance running race organized during the Yuan dynasty, as Kublai Khan, grandson of Genghis Khan, placed great importance on the physical fitness of his troops, and in 1287 began arranging daily endurance runs. Enditem
