Helicopter-borne workers fix 1,100-kv power line in east China

2020-11-17 09:35:51

HEFEI, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese workers in Hefei, capital of east China's Anhui Province, recently completed a live-wire operation on a 1,100-kilovolt direct-current (DC) transmission by stringing a basket from a helicopter.

The operation was ordered after State Grid staff detected two dangerous flaws on a tower along the Changji-Guquan transmission line.

The helicopter first transported monitoring staff to the top of the tower. Thereafter, the live-wire operation workers were transferred to the designated spot on the helicopter-stringing basket. The operation lasted about an hour.

Live-wire operation by helicopter is currently a working method adopted by a few countries for the maintenance and repair of the main power network. It is a quick and highly efficient approach with great technical standards, said Wu Weiguo in charge of the operation.

The Changji-Guquan transmission line linking northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and Anhui was put into operation in September 2019. It leads the world in terms of voltage level, transmission capacity and distance. Enditem
