To exchange culture through food – 5th Italian Food Week opens

After the opening ceremony, Guido Bilancini, the Consul General of Italy in Chongqing, was interviewed by journalists.

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- “I really like Chongqing hotpot and I also love my hometown food. Food is a great way for countries to exchange cultures.” On November 23, the 5th Italian Food Week was officially opened. At the opening ceremony, Guido Bilancini, Consul General of Italy in Chongqing, expressed his hope to promote more exchanges between the two countries through food.

“Italy’s cuisine is one of its prides and World Italian Food Week is now a regular event to promote Italian cuisine,” Guido Bilancini, Consul General of Italy in Chongqing, said in the opening ceremony. He also mentioned that Chongqing is a city of cuisine and hoped that the different cuisines would bring more exchanges between the people of the two countries, as well as strengthen bilateral relations between Italy and China in cultural and other fields.

The Italian Food Week, now in its fifth year and celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Italy and China, is of great significance, said Consul General Guido Bilancini.

Over the next week, Chongqing, Chengdu, Kunming and Guiyang will host more than 30 culinary promotions organized by restaurants, bars, upmarket hotels, Italian ice cream parlors and Chongqing’s most important imported supermarkets. After the opening ceremony, the exhibition “A Taste of Italy”, a photo exhibition of Italian cuisine, was officially opened. 25 photographs of Italian food and ingredients were exhibited.
