CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Recently, the construction of Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport Terminal T3B and the fourth runway has officially started, according to Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport. The project will see the construction of the new Terminal T3B, fourth runway and associated supporting facilities. Upon completion of the project, Jiangbei Airport will have four runways and four terminals, capable of handling 80 million passengers, 580,000 flights and 1.2 million tons of cargo and mail, which will further enhance its operational security.

Construction of the new Terminal 3B and fourth runway to be completed in 2024

According to the introduction, the main elements of the expansion include the construction of a new 3,400m long and 45m wide fourth runway and corresponding taxiway system 380m east of the third runway; construction of the new 350,000-square-meter Terminal T3B and 148 parking spots and renovation of the Terminal T1; a new 130,000-square-meter parking building, 37,400-square-meter international cargo facilities, a 2.17-kilometer metro system and associated auxiliary production and living facilities; complementary construction of Air Traffic Control, fuel supply and ground petrol station projects. The project is scheduled for completion in 2024.

Terminal T3B has an X-shaped facade, consisting of a main building and four airside concourses, which harmonizes with T3A in terms of style and procedure. As a satellite hall for domestic passengers in T3A, T3B is capable of handling 35 million passengers a year and operates in harmony with T3A domestic flights. After completing check-in and security checks at T3A, passengers can arrive at Terminal 3B via the Automated People Mover System and wait for their flights.

The functional areas of T3B mainly include domestic departures, domestic arrivals, domestic transfers, two-class services, platforms for the MRT system, commercial facilities and office areas. In addition, the ramp tower, property management room, refrigeration station and special garage have been combined in the Terminal 3B building.
